Overview

Kwakha Indvodza (KI), Eswatini’s foremost male mentoring organization specializes in community-led health and Behaviour change interventions with men and boys. KI seeks a suitably qualified and experienced individual for the position of Advocacy Officer under the Advocacy and Communications Department. This position will be supported by a number of existing Kwakha Indvodza projects. Reports to: Advocacy and Communications Coordinator
Position Grade: Officer Level (Experienced) (2.3/6.3)
Home Office: KI Headquarters, Mbabane, with up to 30% national travel

Roles and Responsibilities:

 Responsible for designing, planning and implementing advocacy strategy and
campaigns for KI.

 With the Advocacy and Communications Coordinator, responsible for monitoring the
implementation of KI’s advocacy strategic objectives and updating these as
appropriate.

 Actively participate and represent the organization in various networks and movements
to share KI’s position on human rights issues.

 Responsible for designing training packages for KI.

 Lead training workshops for relevant stakeholders, staff and key actors on advocacy,
gender and human rights related topics.

 Use knowledge and insight into the political environment to inform the organization’s
advocacy actions.

 Develop and utilize advocacy channels for KI to achieve relevant advocacy objectives.

 Work with all relevant CSOs to foster and build support for relevant advocacy aims
amongst parliamentarians.

 Build partnerships and coordinate work with other networks and allies in the field of
human rights and health.

 Develop and maintain clear lines of communication with advocates and key
stakeholders nationally and internationally and use this to inform KI’s work.

 Manage good relationships and communication with international institutions and
partner networks.

 Manage and maintain relationships with community leaders, human rights platforms, local NGOs and other community-based organizations.

 Support the Advocacy and Communications Coordinator in media outreach to support KI’s advocacy strategy.

 Support the Advocacy & Communications Coordinator in generating social media and
website content.

 Maintain local media list with accurate contact information.

 Keep abreast and inform the organisation about new developments in areas that relate to KI’s mandate from a national, regional and global perspective.

 Write for local and international media.

 Assist with writing newsletters (online and/or physical) for donors and partners, ensuring that current affairs at KI and success stories connect to existing or new pages on the website.

 Any other role or responsibility as assigned by the Executive Director in the fulfilment of KI’s mission and vision.

Desired Qualities:

 Undergraduate degree in political science, law or at least equivalent experience in related field.
 Demonstrable advocacy, communication, interviewing and research skills.
 Experience of networking with partners, coalitions and human rights organizations.
 An ability to apply awareness of diversity issues to all areas of work.
 An avid interest in the politics, current affairs and the development landscape in which KI works.
 Knowledge of the SODV Act, the CPW Act and other human rights legislations.
 An advocate for social justice, gender equality, youth issues and health, who lives by
principles of service, integrity and respect for all.
 Proven personal and professional record of leading by example in making healthy
lifestyle choices and positive personal growth.
 An innovative self-starter, who can work independently or with others as part of a team.
 Willingness to learn and grow personally and professionally and the adaptability to take
on new challenges as necessary.
 Analytical, decision making and presentation skills.
 Experience working in a high-pace, innovative environment.
 Excellent computer literacy, including Microsoft Office.
 Excellent written, oral and non-verbal communication skills, including fluency in
English and siSwati.
 Outstanding proven time management and organizational skills.
 A record clear of all major criminal offences (required)
 Driving license and 5 years of clean record (required)
