Ekuphileni clinic, a subsidiary of Sincephetelo MVA Fund invites suitably qualified and experienced candidates to apply for the position of Pharmacist.

Job Function:

The Pharmacist will be responsible for the inventory management of the pharmacy and the administrative running of the pharmacy.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Reports directly to the Medical Officer
  • Manage the pharmacy inventory and supervise junior staff
  • Responsible for the overall medicines supply chain management in the clinic
  • Carries out dispensing and compounding activities in the clinic
  • Supervises the dispensing of medicines and other medical supplies to patients in the clinic
  • Works closely with the medical and nursing personnel to ensure the rational use of medicines and medical supplies in the clinic and the promotion of generic medicines use in the clinic
  • Maintains an up to date inventory of medicines and medical supplies, in the clinic
  • Maintains an up to date inventory of medicines and medical supplies received from suppliers
  • Receives medicines and medical supply shipment from suppliers and checks deliveries for compliance with delivery notes and invoices.
  • Monitors medicine storage conditions in the clinic to ensure the implementation of good medicines storage practices that minimize loss of medicines and medical supplies
  • Keeps custody of all narcotics in the clinic
  • Ensures that vaccines and medical supplies requiring refrigeration are properly stored and the cold chain is maintained
  • Provides medicines-related information to doctors, nurses, dispensers, patients and during therapeutics meetings in the facility
  • Prepares and supervises the preparation of extemporaneous preparations as they be required by specific prescribers
  • Quantify the medicines need of the clinic to inform the medicine budget needs of the facility
  • Monitors patients’ response to the medicine therapies and reports any adverse drug reactions to the Medical Officer and to the Medicines Information Pharmacist
  • Works closely with the Medical Officer and monitors antibiotic sensitivity and advises when to carry out blood test to determine therapeutics plasma levels of drugs
  • Performs other duties delegated to him/her

Qualifications and Work Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy
  • Must be registered as a Pharmacist with the Eswatini Medical & Dental Council with a current practicing license
  • 3yrs experience of working a private retail pharmacy

Skill and competencies:

  • Must function effectively as a member of the clinical team in the hospital
  • Must possess very good verbal and written communication skills
  • Good organizational skills
  • Good computer skills
  • Efficient independent worker with ability to focus on assigned tasks and show initiative
  • Strong interpersonal and decision-making skills
  • Familiarity with medicine quality requirements and FEFO rules
