SHIFT QUALITY CONTROL

Job Title: Shift Quality Control Assistant

Reports To: Quality Control Officer

Department: EDM Quality Control

Plants Covered: Wood Cable Drum Plant & Pallet Plant

Employment Type: Full-Time | 3-Month Probation Period

Location: Piggs Peak, Eswatini

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

The Shift Quality Controller is the eyes and ears of the Quality department on the production floor. This is a hands-on, floor-based role responsible for carrying out daily quality inspections, identifying non-conformances, and ensuring that products from both the Pallet Plant and the Cable Drum Plant meet the company’s standards and customer specifications.

This person works directly under the Quality Control Officer, taking on the day-to-day inspection workload across both plants.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Floor Inspections & Checklists

  • Carry out daily quality inspections across both plants using established checklists and inspection criteria.

  • Inspect in-process and finished products against drawings, specifications, and customer requirements.

  • Identify, tag, and quarantine non-conforming materials or products immediately.

  • Ensure all inspection records are completed accurately and on time, every shift, every day.

Non-Conformance & Problem Solving

  • Raise non-conformance reports (NCRs) for any product or material that does not meet specification.

  • Investigate root causes of quality failures on the floor and report findings to the QC Officer.

  • Follow up on corrective actions to confirm they have been implemented and are working.

  • Escalate recurring or unresolved problems promptly — do not let issues carry on silently.

Production Floor Presence

  • Be visible and active on the floor throughout the shift — this is not an office role.

  • Build practical working relationships with supervisors and operators to promote a quality-first culture.

  • Coach production staff on quality standards.

  • Observe and report on production practices that do not align with quality procedures.

Records & Reporting

  • Complete all checklists, NCRs, and quality records thoroughly and on time.

  • Provide a clear daily summary of inspection findings to the QC Officer.

  • Support the QC Officer during internal audits, customer audits, and management reviews.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

A formal quality degree is not required, however some educational or vocational background in a quality-related field is strongly preferred. We are looking for someone practical, detail-oriented, and willing to grow.

Experience & Background

  • Minimum: Form 5 / Matric Certificate (required).

  • Certificate in Quality Management, Quality Assurance, or a related technical field — strong advantage.

  • Exposure to quality systems, inspection methods, or non-conformance processes through study or work experience.

  • Experience working with wood, timber, or in a wood products or manufacturing environment — added advantage.

  • Background in production supervision, carpentry, or a trade requiring adherence to standards and specifications.

  • Experience completing inspection records, checklists, or written reports in a work or academic setting.

Skills & Personal Qualities

  • Sharp eye for detail — able to spot defects, inconsistencies, and problems that others walk past.

  • A quality mindset — belief that doing it right matters and problems should be surfaced, not hidden.

  • Practical judgement — able to assess a situation on the floor and make a sound call.

  • Reliable, consistent, and self-driven — does not need to be chased to complete tasks.

  • Basic literacy and numeracy — able to complete written records, read specifications, and use a measuring tape.

  • Able to work independently on the floor while keeping the QC Officer informed.

  • Physically able to work in a production environment — on your feet, active, and hands-on throughout the shift.
