Overview: Jhpiego, an affiliate of the Johns Hopkins University is an international non-profit working for 50 years in over 155 countries globally to prevent the needless deaths of women and their families. In Eswatini, Jhpiego is supporting HIV prevention interventions with a focus on increasing awareness on voluntary medical male circumcision (VMMC) services through the PEPFAR/CDC-funded VMMC Technical Assistance Project from September 2020 through September 2025. Jhpiego Eswatini Office has a vacant post for the project’s Technical Advisor and applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates to fill this position. Purpose of position: The Technical Advisor will work closely with the Project Director to support implementation of the VMMC PEPFAR/CDC funded project: Strengthening of the Kingdom of Eswatini’s VMMC Program. Responsibilities include overseeing annual work planning, implementation and reporting of project activities, and representing Jhpiego to partners, whenever necessary. The Technical Advisor will be responsible for providing technical support to the VMMC program within the Ministry of Health (MOH), VMMC direct service delivery (DSD) partners and other stakeholders; and participating in technical working groups. S/he will support the VMMC program to conduct VMMC related trainings and support the MOH VMMC senior nurse to provide mentorship to VMMC providers. S/he will provide support in development of work plans to ensure program design is line with program and Ministry of Health strategies and international best practices. S/he will also work closely with the HIV prevention program and Jhpiego technical staff to ensure excellence in providing technical assistance for the VMMC program. In addition, the Technical Advisor will support other technical staff in cross-cutting approaches, such as quality assurance and improvement, linkages and referrals among services, monitoring and evaluation, demand creation for VMMC and conduct operations research. The Technical Advisor will report to the Project Director. This position is based in Mbabane and may require frequent travel throughout Eswatini.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Clinician (i.e. Nurse, Doctor) required; MPH or advanced degree preferred.
  • Programming and technical expertise in HIV programs in the East and Southern Africa region
  • At least 10 years’ experience managing VMMC or HIV Prevention programs at a regional or national level, including planning, designing, budgeting, supervising, evaluating and documenting results.
  • Excellent interpersonal and supervisory skills, inspiring teamwork and motivating staff and partners to achieve results.
  • Demonstrated strong technical and programmatic knowledge and experience in the following areas HIV counselling and testing, combination prevention, integration of TB/HIV, and working with men.
  • Experience in conducting trainings and mentoring clinical staff will be an added advantage.
  • Knowledge of USG programs, regulations, compliance and reporting
  • Ability to work in a complex environment with multiple tasks, short deadlines and intense pressure to perform
  • Fluent in written and spoken English
  • Excellent facilitation, oral and written communications skills
  • Demonstrated computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Knowledge of Statistical package desirable.
  • Ability and willingness to travel around Eswatini up to 30% of the time
