PROJECTS ENGINEER (OPTIMISATION)

THE JOB: Reporting to the Optimization Manager, the purpose of the job is to provide specialised project support to site such that it is able to deliver on its operations support and project development work streams, in pursuit of achieving enhanced profitability.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:

• Plan, structure and lead the execution of site improvement projects in-Country using appropriate processes and tools

• Identify, generate the business case, motivate, plan and manage implementation of capital projects, ensuring required economic and community outcomes are delivered in time.

• Leverage in Country support from process and engineering optimisation teams to deliver on the project mandate

• Coordinate input and develop 5 year manufacturing capital plans including equipment selection and review.

• Coordinate development of scope of work, request for quotations. tender evaluations and adjudications of projects.

• Coordinate internal resources and third parties/vendors for the flawless execution of projects, and ensure that all contractors meet SLAs.

• Manage changes to the project scope, project schedule and project costs using appropriate verification techniques.

• Monitor procurement and escalate roadblocks to management to prevent delays.

• Measure and report on project performance and expenditure against project budgets using appropriate tools and techniques.

• Meet budgetary objectives and make adjustments to project constraints based on financial analysis, and ensure capital projects are aligned with the Contrast system.

• Develop comprehensive project plans to be shared and communicated to management and the corporate head office capital.

• Ensure resource availability and allocation.

• Perform risk management to minimize project risks.

• Evaluate the work standards and sign off all projects to the original BOQ and agreed project standards as per the contract.

• Ensure all projects are fully integrated into operations and maintenance systems through effective handover.

• Promote and adhere to illovo’s procedures, policies and guidelines, including, without limitation, those relating to SHERQ, Competition Law and Anti-Bribery and Corruption (ABC).

THE APPLICANT:

• BSc or B-Tech degree in Mechanical Engineering.

• 5+ years experience in manufacturing.

• Large scale project management and implementation experience.


FARM SUPERVISOR

THE JOB:

Reporting to the Farm Manager, the purpose of the job is to supervise and monitor farm activities to ensure quality and activity targets are achieved.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:

• Supervise all farming activities, timing and quality standards related to cane production

• Execute and supervise farm resource and activity plans.

• Supervise farm activities and implement continuous improvement measures to ensure adherence to activity standards.

• Monitor correct use of materials and other farm inputs.

• Carryout inspections and activity assessments and submit reports to management. • Maintain discipline within the team.

• Keep daily record of farm activity data for capturing into cane Pro.

• Assist management in monitoring labour requirement in line with farm plan.

• Implement continuous improvement practices by monitoring work practices, and ensuring that tools and techniques are applied to deliver high quality sugar cane.

• Develop skills within the team through on-the-job coaching and mentoring.

• Conduct on the job training and instruction on various farm activities.

• Report any identified risks to management.

• Monitoring and execution of farm activities by service provides to ensure compliance with standards.

• Promote and adhere to Illovo’s procedures, policies and guidelines, including, without limitation, those relating to SHERQ, Competition Law and Anti-Bribery and Corruption (ABC).

THE APPLICANT:

• Diploma in Agriculture.

• Experience in sugar cane growing will be added advantage.

• Experience with leading teams and resource allocation.

• Good relationship building and maintenance skills.


AGRICULTURE HEAD

THE  JOB

Reporting to the Country Managing Director, the Agriculture Head is a member of the Executive Management Team and is the business leader responsible for agricultural operations and divisional profitability. The main purpose of the job is to produce/procure sucrose at the lowest cost and risk. Key performance areas of the position include strategy formulation and execution, meeting annual production targets, cane procurement and grower support, operating and capital budget management and contracts, stakeholder relationship, risk and people management.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:

• Lead development of long term cane supply, agriculture strategy and yield forecasts; ensure that appropriate processes are run to refresh strategy at appropriate intervals and that initiatives are in place to deliver on the strategy.

• Oversee coordination of a rateable supply of cane to the mill aligned with mill requirements, ensuring delivery equity between Growers (including own Estate) and haulers is maintained, and that “no cane” stops, other than those for rain, are minimised and plant crushing capacity & OTE maximized.

• Develop annual agriculture operations plan for crop establishment, husbandry and removal, including innovation and new technology adoption and implementation.

• Build a strong leadership team and talent pipeline for agriculture through ongoing coaching, mentoring and guidance.

• Drive rigorous performance management, biased towards rewarding strong performance and compliance with critical behaviors, and including managing consequences where required.

• Drive operational excellence culture by making informed trade offs and driving initiatives that will deliver greatest possible yields at optimal cost and quality levels.

• Ensure adoption of group minimum standards, processes and ways of working for Crop Production, Agronomy, Engineering, Harvesting and Haulage, Cane Supply and Grower Optimization.

• Oversee provision of relationship management and technical expertise to Grower Agriculture.

• Drive synergies with the group, effectively partnering with group counterparts to identify, share and embed opportunities for optimisation.

• Manage relationships with Growers, key stakeholders and 3rd party suppliers.

• Report on agriculture performance and key adverse or positive developments to Country Executive and Group Agriculture and Grower Agriculture.

• Initiate and develop the business case for key capital projects, ensuring required outcomes are delivered on.

• Manage agricultural risk using agreed systems and processes for mitigation.

• Manage and coordinate sharing of identified best practices, frameworks and minimum standards within function through Head Office platform, and provide additional opportunities for problem identification and knowledge sharing.

• Oversee effective talent and performance management within function.

• Ensure enablers are in place to promote success (e.g. systems and processes).

• Identify and monitor KPIs to track performance and flag any issues. Establish and maintain a cane production and griper relationship management database that satisfies business requirements.

• Promote and adhere to Illovo’s procedures, policies and guidelines, including, without limitation, those relating to SHERQ, Competition Law and Anti-Bribery and Corruption (ABC).

THE APPLICANT:

• Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture / Agricultural Development / Agricultural Engineering / Agricultural Economics. Postgraduate qualifications are an advantage.

• 10 years experience in estate sugar cane agriculture, inqluding cane supply and Grower optimisation, with a minimum of 5 years in a senior agricultural operations management position responsible for more than 5,000ha.

• Experience building and managing senior management team

• Good business acumen and agricultural expertise, with ability to anticipate, interpret and respond to changes impacting commercial agriculture.

• Strong people and labour relations management experience.

• A strategic and innovative thinker willing to challenge the norms

• A formal business/commercial qualification would be an advantage.

• Strong agricultural and business data analysis skills.
