Overview

The Board of Governors of Southern Africa Nazarene University [SANU] invite applications for the position of Vice Chancellor.

SANU is a Christian University based in Eswatini, classified under the PEU Act as a Government Parastatal following the signing of Memorandum of Agreement between Government of the Kingdom of Eswatini and the Church of the Nazarene.

Currently the University offers Bachelors, Diplomas and Certificate programmes in Education, Nursing, Pharmacy, Medical Laboratory, Theology and in Business Entrepreneurship and Management, The University is an accredited Higher Education Institution recognised by professional and regulatory bodies in Eswatini; inter alia, the Ministry of Education & Training, the Eswatini Higher Education Council, Eswatini Nursing Council, Teaching Service Commission, the Church of the Nazarene International Board of Education and is a member of the Association of African Universities.

The Vice Chancellor serves as the Chief Executive Officer for the University, leads the University strategic planning, and is responsible for the overall administration, leadership, and management of the academic affairs, student and staff wellness, institutional support and resource mobilization. The Vice Chancellor will shape and advance SANU’s desire to grow, innovate and achieve its Vision, Mission, and Belief as stated in the University Constitution and Statutes.

Minimum Qualifications

PhD or equivalent from a recognized University

Minimum Experience

  • Strong academic background and related achievements that will foster credibility within the University community and beyond. Must have held a senior academic rank.
  • Strong record of accomplishment in leadership and management in higher education or in a public institution of comparable complexity.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with people of varying skills and background, including board members, management, University staff, students, and the general public.

Essential Requirements

  • Experience in cultivating effective working relationships with key stakeholders supporting the University’s aspirations of growth including the Government of the Kingdom of Eswatini and the Church of the Nazarene.
  • Demonstrate strong servant-hood and transformational leadership.
  • Proven ability to lead, manage and develop a multi-disciplinary team in a complex environment.
  • Strong experience in the implementation of strategic plans, income generation projects, and entrepreneurship partnerships.
  • Change and innovative mind-set
  • Be a member in good standing of the Church of the Nazarene

Duties

As the Chief Executive Officer of the University, the VC is accountable to the University Board of Governors and is responsible for the provision of overall leadership and direction to the;

  • Formulations of new academic programmes and enhancement of existing programmes in line with Eswatini Higher Education Council accreditation requirements.
  • Upliftment of intellectual, spiritual, and social welfare of students and staff of SANU.
  • Integrity of the academic programmes and all forms of certification of academic achievement of past and present students.
  • Articulation of the Vision of SANU and promotion of it amongst stakeholders including the Church of the Nazarene and the Government of the Kingdom of Eswatini.
  • Lead development, implementation, monitoring and revision of the Strategic Plan of the University including strategies for fiscal accountability and resource mobilization, campus development, public relations, student recruitment and academic programme development.
