
EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY – FARM MANAGER
Montigny – Usutu Forest Products Company Limited
Dwaleni Investment Company, a subsidiary of Usutu Forest Products Company, is seeking an experienced, highly motivated, and results-driven Farm Manager to join our agricultural operations. This critical role is responsible for the overall management of our commercial farming of avocados among other agricultural products, maintaining product quality, profitability, and strict compliance with international export standards.
Key Responsibilities
1. Farm Management
- Oversee the overall management of the farm, including annual production planning and budgeting.
- Manage tree establishment, new orchard development, and rejuvenation programs.
- Implement irrigation scheduling, water management, fertilizer programs, and soil health strategies.
- Monitor and control pests and diseases through integrated pest management (IPM).
- Conduct crop estimation, yield forecasting, and harvest planning and coordination.
- Implement canopy management and pruning programs to maintain optimal tree health and productivity.
2. Packhouse Operations
- Manage daily packhouse operations, ensuring grading and packing meet stringent export specifications.
- Oversee quality assurance, food safety compliance, and cold chain management.
- Control stock and packaging materials and ensure maintenance of all packhouse equipment.
- Maintain and manage Global G.A.P. Certification, ensuring compliance with traceability and audit requirements.
- Prepare for and host internal and external audits, maintaining accurate production records and documentation.
3. Export & Logistics Coordination
- Coordinate exports to South Africa, the European Union, and other international markets.
- Liaise with exporters, freight forwarders, and shipping agents to ensure seamless logistics.
- Ensure all export documentation is completed accurately and submitted on time.
- Manage transport logistics from orchard to market, ensuring fruit quality is preserved throughout the supply chain.
4. Labour & Administrative Management
- Recruit, train, and supervise employees, implementing health and safety procedures.
- Monitor labour productivity and performance, ensuring compliance with labour legislation.
- Control budgets, manage costs, and procure farming inputs efficiently.
- Compile monthly operational reports and maintain comprehensive production records for analysis.
Minimum Requirements & Skills
Qualifications
- Minimum Requirement: Degree in Agriculture, Horticulture, or a related field.
- Experience: A minimum of 10 years of commercial farming experience.
- Proven experience managing orchards and packhouse operations.
- Demonstrated experience with Global G.A.P. Certification and export requirements.
- Proven track record exporting agricultural produce to South African and European markets.
Technical Competencies
- Strong computer literacy, including Microsoft Office Suite and farm management software.
- Proficiency in budget control, cost management, and production analysis.
- Knowledge of phytosanitary requirements and food safety systems.
- Valid driver’s licence.
