PILOT-IN-COMMAND

Purpose of the Position

To ensure the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of the aircraft during all phases of flight, while exercising final authority over the aircraft, crew, passengers, and cargo in accordance with company procedures and aviation regulations.

Key Areas of Responsibility

Compliance and Safety

  • The Pilot-in-Command shall ensure the operation and safety of the aircraft.
  • The Pilot-in-Command shall ensure the safety of all persons and cargo onboard from the time the door is closed until the doors are opened after the flight.
  • The Pilot-in-Command shall have final authority for the disposition of the aircraft during time in which he is in command.
  • The Pilot-in-Command shall ensure that delegation of duties to other crew members is in accordance with company procedures, shall in no way affect their ultimate responsibility for the safe conduct of the flight.
  • The Pilot-in-Command is responsible for the aircraft, crew, passengers and cargo from the time he accepts the aircraft on the ramp after pre-flight inspection, until the time he releases it on the ramp, to qualified flight or ground personnel at the termination of the flight.
  • The Pilot-in-Command shall ensure that each member of the crew performs his/her assigned duties in the proper manner and that all regulations, orders and directives are complied with.
  • The Pilot-in-Command shall have jurisdiction over all Crew Members assigned to the flight, from the time they report for duty until duty is completed or until the crew returns to home base.
  • The Pilot-in-Command shall ensure that precautions are taken to protect the aircraft from damage during ground stop.
  • The Pilot-in-Command shall ensure that the aircraft is properly parked, and if stored outside, the control locks are installed, wheels choked and appropriate covers and plugs are installed.
  • The Pilot-in-Command shall ensure all associated paperwork is completed.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Valid Airline Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL) with a current type rating on at least one aircraft operated under the Air Operator Certificate (AOC).
  • Minimum of 4000 total flight time; with 1,500 total flight hours as Pilot in Command.
  • ERJ 145 type rating would be an added advantage.
