Purpose:

Responsible for supporting the end-to-end management of production operations within the garment factory. This role involves strategic oversight of line performance, process optimization, quality assurance, and team leadership to meet delivery schedules, cost targets, and quality standards. The Assistant PM will also work closely with the planning, merchandising, procurement, quality, Technical, HR, maintenance, and compliance teams to align production objectives with broader organizational goals.

Reporting to Production Manager, the candidate will be responsible for:

    • Ensuring line is set up through coordinating and balancing absences in liaison with Line Managers
    • Effectively plan, coordinate, and manage workflow from cutting, trim stores, sewing and through to timely delivery of completed orders at dispatch
    • Work directly with production planners, PM, FM on projecting peak or seasonal volumes and managing daily/weekly/monthly capacities.
    • Negotiate time and actions and ensure the timelines make sense to product category lead times by understanding the production management life cycle.
    • Set up additional targets through monitoring and directing Line Managers to meet production delivery timelines
    • Check plan for future orders and plan according to time schedules and delivery dates
    • Conduct random checks together with the QC department and inform the Manager responsible for the line and hold daily meetings to check the quality of garments before packaging
    • Ensure that the section reaches output targets and or customer orders within planned delivery dates
    • Maintain the number of human and machinery resources required to meet operational targets at the least cost
    • Negotiate fabric and garment availability, peak or seasonal volumes of manpower required to meet targets and supplier partnerships.
    • Manage risk and quality control across multiple channels, including people, products, and processes.
    • Manage and provide input on strategies to reduce line absence.

Leadership

    • Ensures that a congenial atmosphere exists on the floor.
    • Maintain proper documentation of all the activities on the floor such as SOP’s and operating standards.
    • Make arrangements for the right line layout or machine layout.
    • As a leader, he/she inspires, unites employees for better work, better motivation.
    • Ensure that all the machinery is equipped with protective devices and that operators wear appropriate safety gear at all times.
    • Organizes and chairs pre-production meetings or pre-production activities to discuss related issues.
    • Approve the commencement of production against a work order.
    • Set performance targets and evaluate the performance of Line Managers

Management of Training & Skills Transfer

    • Assess and identify knowledge and skills gaps for Line Managers, Supervisors and Operators and set as well as implement development programs thereof
    • Maintain annual training plan ensuring skills transfer
    • Provide necessary training where necessary and or arrange it through the HR relevant providers to upskill Managers, Supervisors and Operators
    • Arrange for continuous training of helpers and operators.

Compliance

    • Ensure compliance with all health and safety requirements during operations
    • Compliance with legislation and corporate governance practices such as SEDEX ETI Code, ISO 9001 – 2015, External and Internal Annual Audits,
    • Implement new technologies and stay alert to new trends and developments in the sector.
    • Maintain accurate auditable records and documentation of all standard operating procedures and processes

People Management

    • Manage subordinates by allocating work, setting achievable targets, assessing progress, coaching and training.
    • Manage the performance of subordinates and implement corrective and development measures where required.
    • Develop and maintain a succession plan in coordination with HR

Minimum Requirements:

Qualifications

Experience: Skills, Knowledge & Attributes

    • Degree in Production/Operations Management
    • Minimum of 7+ years’ experience overseeing and supporting large-scale garment manufacturing operations.
    • Must have a strong technical background in managing high-volume production with 10+ production lines, 300+ machines, and a workforce of 400+ staff.
    • Solid working knowledge and practical experience with General Sewing Data (GSD), Standard Minute Value (SMV), Work Study, and Method Study.
    • Strategic thinker who sees the company’s bigger picture
    • Ability to confidently and proactively supervise production teams.
    • Exceptional analytical ability toward solving production-related concerns.
    • Knowledge of procuring materials, equipment, and labor needed throughout the production process.
    • Must be able to work in a team environment and take directions well Proficiency in Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office Suite programs, Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint
    • Must be able to read and follow details in a tech pack\
    • Must have good verbal and written communication skills.
