CASHIER

Cashier (Grade B5)

Location: Siteki, Eswatini

Reports To: Accounts Officer – Revenue

Job Purpose

To accurately receive, process, and record daily financial transactions from the public (service charges, taxes, permit fees), ensuring proper allocation, compliance with financial regulations, and excellent customer service.


Key Responsibilities

1. Revenue Collection

  • Process payments (cash & electronic) for services, rates, deposits, utilities, licenses, rentals, etc.
  • Issue official receipts for all transactions
  • Record transactions accurately in the financial system
  • Balance daily cash collections against system reports

2. Accuracy & Reconciliation

  • Balance daily takings and ensure all receipts are issued
  • Maintain accurate financial records in line with Council policies
  • Bank cash promptly (next day)
  • Report shortages/overages immediately
  • Safeguard cash, cheques, and payment instruments
  • Prepare daily cash-up reports

3. Banking

  • Prepare daily banking summaries
  • Assist with deposit preparation
  • Ensure all funds are banked intact and on time

4. Customer Service

  • Provide courteous service to residents and stakeholders
  • Respond to billing and payment queries
  • Escalate complex queries where necessary
  • Operate cash register / ACCPAC system

5. Record Keeping

  • Maintain accurate transaction records
  • File receipts and supporting documents properly
  • Support audits with required documentation

6. Compliance

  • Adhere to financial policies and internal controls
  • Follow audit requirements
  • Comply with anti-fraud and anti-corruption procedures

Qualifications & Experience

  • Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in cash handling or finance environment
  • Computer literacy (ACCPAC, Microsoft Office)
