The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) is the United Nations sexual and reproductive health agency working to deliver a world where every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe, and every young person’s potential is fulfilled.

The UNFPA Eswatini Country Office is implementing the Government of Eswatini–UNFPA 8th Country Programme (2026–2030) and seeks to recruit a Communications Assistant to support strategic communication initiatives that enhance the visibility and impact of UNFPA programmes.

Purpose of the Position

The Communications Assistant will support the planning and implementation of the UNFPA advocacy and communication strategy, contributing to the visibility of UNFPA’s work, advocacy initiatives, communication products, and stakeholder engagement.

Key Responsibilities

Communication and Visibility

  • Ensure compliance with UNFPA branding guidelines and communication policies.
  • Monitor media coverage of UNFPA programmes and ICPD issues.
  • Maintain and update the country office website and social media platforms.
  • Organise media engagements, field visits, and press briefings.
  • Participate in the UN Communications Group (UNCG).
  • Liaise with regional communications teams and other UNFPA Country Offices.

Advocacy

  • Support the development and implementation of advocacy and communication strategies.
  • Produce communication materials including publications, photographs, videos, human-interest stories, infographics, factsheets, and programme briefs.
  • Provide logistical and administrative support for advocacy, communication, SBCC activities, and International Day commemorations.

Partnership & Resource Mobilisation

  • Conduct environmental scanning, partner profiling, and media monitoring.
  • Support the development of resource mobilisation strategies.
  • Liaise with regional resource mobilisation and partnership advisors on donor agreements and reporting.

Management & Reporting

  • Report directly to the Head of Office/Officer-In-Charge.
  • Work closely with programme and operations teams, UN agencies, partners, stakeholders, and the Regional ESA Communications team.
  • Report to work Monday to Friday and occasionally on weekends as required.

Qualifications & Experience

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field.

Experience

  • 2–5 years’ professional experience in communications, programme or project management.
  • Experience in print, broadcast, digital media, and external relations.
  • Experience working with UNFPA, UN agencies, or NGOs.
  • Good understanding of advocacy and communication concepts.
  • Proven experience using social media and other communication platforms.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and corporate IT systems.
  • Fluency in English (knowledge of other UN languages is an advantage).
