JOB PURPOSE

The Distribution Driver is responsible for performing deliveries according to required standards while promoting the company’s image and ensuring efficient and accurate delivery of products to customers.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Inspect trucks and trailers using the vehicle checklist, including checking oil and water levels.
  • Record and report any vehicle damage or faults identified during inspections.
  • Check crew lists and truck/load numbers.
  • Check the quantity of goods for delivery and plan the sequence in which products are packed.
  • Complete required vehicle and delivery log sheets.
  • Count stock daily using handheld devices.
  • Adhere to all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) standards.
  • Check customer storerooms to ensure adequate space for deliveries.
  • Instruct the crew on the correct sequence for offloading products.
  • Supervise the offloading process at customer premises.
  • Report customer complaints, challenges and other difficulties to the Supervisor.
  • Count empty containers before loading.
  • Read and record vehicle kilometres and submit records to the relevant person.
  • Ensure delivery invoices are correctly completed and submitted.
  • Use EBL technology for delivery and invoicing processes.
  • Follow delivery routes as determined by the planner.

KEY ATTRIBUTES & COMPETENCIES

  • Form V qualification with an appropriate Heavy-Duty Vehicle Driver’s Licence.
  • Excellent driving skills and good eyesight.
  • Good numeracy and literacy skills.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to handle customer queries and liaise effectively with customers.
  • Supervisory skills.
  • Ability to operate electronic equipment.
  • Good problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong organisational and planning skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Ability to work in a pressurised, cross-functional and demanding environment.
  • Good customer service ethics and interpersonal skills.
