Job Purpose

To manage and optimise the Bank’s liquidity in accordance with its liquidity management framework and regulatory requirements, ensuring that funding costs remain within a reasonable range. The role involves developing and executing funding and liquidity strategies to achieve an efficient, sustainable and appropriately risk-adjusted funding structure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and coordinate implementation of the Bank’s funding strategy in partnership with business segments.

  • Manage balance sheet capacity in line with the Bank’s Asset and Liability Management (ALM) risk framework.

  • Forecast funding requirements and ensure they are met efficiently.

  • Calibrate and mark internal curves for funds transfer pricing and money market funding issuance.

  • Ensure compliance with liquidity regulatory metrics, including LCR and NSFR.

  • Collaborate with the Intraday Liquidity Management desk to maintain adequate liquidity.

  • Develop and maintain liquidity contingency plans and the Funds Transfer Pricing framework.

  • Develop sustainable, diversified and flexible funding strategies.

  • Manage institutional funders and strengthen relationships.

  • Support the development of liability products and savings propositions.

  • Forecast and plan actual and contingent funding.

  • Improve understanding of deposit dynamics through behavioural modelling.

  • Drive market development on funding solutions.

  • Design and implement operational processes and controls for daily treasury operations.

  • Manage secured and unsecured funding programmes, including repo funding, structured notes and unsecured bond issuance.

  • Authorise intraday liquidity activities and provide backup to the Intraday Liquidity function.

  • Act as secretariat for the Bank’s Funding EXCO.

  • Contribute to stress testing by facilitating the stress testing of the deposit book.

  • Manage the performance of direct reports.

  • Uphold the organisation’s brand promise and highlight unethical practices.

Qualifications and Experience

Minimum Qualifications

– Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Banking, Mathematics, Actuarial Science, Statistics, Business Management or a related field.

Added Advantage

  • Postgraduate qualification in Finance, Treasury Management, Risk Management, Economics, Business Administration (MBA) or a related discipline.

  • Professional certifications such as:

    • Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA)

    • Financial Risk Manager (FRM)

    • Association of Corporate Treasurers (ACT)

    • Chartered Accountant (CA(SA), ACCA, CIMA) or equivalent

    • Certified Treasury Professional (CTP)

Experience Required

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Treasury, Funding and Liquidity Management, Asset and Liability Management (ALM), Balance Sheet Management or Financial Risk Management within banking or financial services.

  • At least 3–5 years’ experience in a management or senior specialist role.

  • Proven experience developing and implementing funding and liquidity strategies.

  • Experience in balance sheet optimisation and funds transfer pricing methodologies.

  • Strong understanding of money markets, funding instruments and wholesale funding programmes.

  • Experience in liquidity forecasting, stress testing and contingency funding planning.

  • Experience engaging with regulators, auditors and senior executive stakeholders.
