GENERAL MANAGER IN THE EXECUTIVE CHAIRMAN’S OFFICE

Job Description

The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting the Executive Chairman in providing people leadership within the business operations, facilitating the integration of the business with the Group’s other insurance businesses to achieve operational synergies and business benefits, and ensuring that financial, commercial, and operational best practices are effectively implemented. The incumbent will assist in all aspects of financial control and reporting, including the preparation of the company’s financial statements, audit engagements relating to the company financials, and the development of projects and initiatives aligned with the strategic goals of the Group and its businesses.


Key Responsibilities

FINANCE

Assist in:

  • Financial reporting, including the preparation of IFRS-compliant accounts and submission of returns to the regulator.
  • Financial management, including cash flow and debtor management, budgeting and forecasting, tax compliance, and financial audits (internal and external).
  • Monthly management reporting and maintaining the integrity of the SAP general ledger and its integration with Life and Asset Management operating systems.
  • Executing strategic priorities to achieve agreed business goals.
  • Developing and managing annual budgets for the division.
  • Conducting periodic cost and productivity analyses.
  • Overseeing compensation programmes and processes to ensure regulatory compliance and competitive remuneration structures.
  • Overseeing payroll functions for the Group.
  • Planning human resource requirements in collaboration with departmental heads.

OPERATIONS

Assist in:

  • Ensuring appropriate commercial processes and infrastructure are in place to support business objectives.
  • Understanding and managing key business risks, including insurance, operational, compliance, and legislative risks.
  • Leading support services management functions, reporting periodically to the GCEO, and assisting in strategy development and performance monitoring.
  • Supporting departmental performance against approved plans and budgets in conjunction with the Finance Department.
  • Ensuring proper administration of organisational policies and procedures.
  • Overseeing the development, maintenance, and implementation of labour relations policies.
  • Leading negotiations and coordinating disciplinary and grievance procedures in compliance with organisational policies and national legislation.
  • Driving the development and implementation of an effective performance management system for the Group.
  • Developing and implementing change management and training initiatives.
  • Driving employee wellness assistance programmes.
  • Overseeing the implementation of corporate social responsibility initiatives.
  • Managing stakeholder engagement and reporting.

ANTI-MONEY LAUNDERING (AML/CFT)

Assist in:

  • Promoting a strong compliance culture across the organisation.
  • Approving AML/CFT frameworks, policies, and risk appetite.
  • Overseeing management’s implementation of AML/CFT obligations.
  • Ensuring adequate resourcing of the compliance function, including budget, staffing, training, and systems.
  • Aligning the organisation’s AML/CFT risk appetite with regulatory expectations.
  • Ensuring AML/CFT compliance reporting to the Board and regulators.
  • Holding senior management accountable for compliance performance.

CUSTOMER ENGAGEMENT AND RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT

Assist in:

  • Managing relationships with key stakeholders, including Boards, Regulators, Shareholders, Statutory Actuaries, and Auditors.
  • Upholding the organisation’s vision, mission, and values across all divisional employees and subsidiaries.
  • Demonstrating exemplary leadership and maintaining the highest standards of ethical conduct.
  • Evaluating emerging technologies and recommending innovative solutions to enhance business value and competitiveness.
  • Maintaining and overseeing the Project Register and executing projects aligned with organisational priorities.
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Managing relationships with technology vendors and service providers to ensure quality and cost-effectiveness.
  • Collaborating with executive leadership and departmental heads to support strategic business objectives.
  • Assessing and mitigating technology-related risks, including cybersecurity, disaster recovery, and compliance risks.
  • Preparing, reviewing, and approving weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports, and actively participating in Management Committee (MANCO) and Executive Committee (EXCO) meetings.

PEOPLE MANAGEMENT

Assist in:

  • Planning human resource requirements in conjunction with departmental heads.
  • Establishing effective performance measurement standards to support staff performance management processes.
  • Setting and monitoring annual performance standards in collaboration with the Corporate Affairs Department.
  • Driving the development and implementation of a consistent performance management system for the Group.
  • Implementing processes to track employee training and continuous professional development.
  • Facilitating staff training and development opportunities in both technical and interpersonal competencies.
  • Developing and implementing employee wellness assistance programmes.
  • Monitoring employee turnover and the performance of direct reports.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration or a related qualification.
  • A Master’s Degree in Business Administration or equivalent will be an added advantage.
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience at a senior level within the Insurance or Financial Services Industry.
  • Proven experience in leading and developing people and managing business processes that support strategic objectives.
  • Project Management experience will be advantageous.
