Job Purpose
The Health and Safety Officer will be responsible for ensuring compliance with all site-specific health, safety, environmental, and security requirements while maintaining the highest standards of service delivery to clients. The role focuses on developing, implementing, and maintaining proactive Health and Safety systems and procedures across operational sites, ensuring compliance with legal, contractual, and organisational standards.
The successful candidate will work closely with clients, management, and operational teams to promote a strong safety culture, minimise risks, and ensure continuous improvement in health and safety performance.
Key Responsibilities
Health, Safety and Compliance Management
- Develop, implement, and maintain site-specific Health and Safety programmes and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with applicable Health and Safety legislation, industry standards, and organisational policies.
- Maintain and regularly update Health and Safety files and statutory documentation.
- Conduct site inspections, audits, and risk assessments to identify hazards and recommend corrective actions.
- Prepare and submit Health and Safety recommendations and reports to clients and management.
- Ensure compliance with ISO management systems including ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 27001, and ISO 23001 requirements.
Client and Stakeholder Management
- Maintain strong working relationships with clients regarding services rendered.
- Continuously assess service delivery standards and recommend improvements where necessary.
- Attend regular client and management meetings to discuss operational and Health and Safety matters.
- Liaise with senior management and operational teams to resolve Health and Safety concerns promptly.
Risk Management and Incident Prevention
- Conduct regular assessments of client premises to identify security and safety vulnerabilities.
- Develop mitigation strategies aimed at reducing risks and preventing incidents.
- Ensure multiple preventative controls and barriers are implemented to minimise potential threats and losses.
- Assist in the management of shrinkage budgets and loss prevention initiatives.
Reporting and Administration
- Compile and submit monthly Health and Safety reports to clients and management.
- Ensure accurate record keeping and maintenance of Health and Safety documentation.
- Monitor compliance against Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and contractual obligations.
- Support audit processes and ensure corrective actions are implemented and tracked.
Training and Awareness
- Provide Health and Safety training to Security Officers, management teams, and client personnel where required.
- Promote awareness of Health and Safety policies, procedures, and best practices.
- Ensure all personnel on site meet contractual and operational requirements as stipulated by clients.
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications
- Relevant qualification in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health and Safety, Risk Management, or related field.
- SAMTRAC qualification or equivalent Health and Safety certification is essential.
- Additional qualifications in Environmental Health and Safety Management will be advantageous.
Experience
- Minimum of 5 to 10 years’ experience in Health and Safety management within a security, industrial, or related environment.
- Demonstrated experience with SLA management and contractual coordination.
- Proven experience in managing Health and Safety systems within operational environments.
Technical Knowledge
- Thorough understanding of:
- ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems
- ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems
- ISO 27001 Information Security Management Systems
- ISO 23001 Business Continuity Management Systems
- Sound knowledge of Health and Safety legislation and compliance requirements.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Word and Excel.
