Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced candidates for the position of Irrigation Agronomist under the Agronomy Department within the Agriculture Division.


Main Purpose of the Job

The role is responsible for providing irrigation and soil production-related agronomic support to production managers throughout RES Corporation.


Minimum Requirements

Education

  • Bachelor of Science in Agronomy or Social Science

Certifications

  • Senior Certificate in Sugarcane Production

Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in irrigation management for sugarcane production

Key Responsibilities

Reporting to the Agronomy Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Developing and implementing irrigation schedules aligned with:
    • Crop water requirements
    • Soil characteristics
    • Climatic conditions
    • Crop growth stages and yield targets
  • Ensuring optimal utilization and maintenance of irrigation and drainage infrastructure and systems
  • Analysing irrigation and drainage performance data and recommending improvements for efficiency and cost-effectiveness
  • Supporting water resource management initiatives and ensuring compliance with environmental and regulatory requirements
  • Identifying research needs and conducting research based on industry and scientific standards
  • Providing technical guidance and training to field staff on:
    • Irrigation
    • Drainage
    • Soil health best practices
  • Contributing to:
    • Budgets
    • Forecasts
    • Cost control of irrigation and drainage operations
  • Managing all weather stations at RES and ensuring integrity of reported data
  • Conducting soil classification and making recommendations for farm development
  • Maintaining strong relationships with organizations for:
    • Technical information exchange
    • Joint projects
    • Industry collaboration
