MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB

The Project Safety Officer will drive the Vision Zero project in the Factories, fostering a safe and trust-based culture.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS & RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting to the IMS Manager – Factories, the incumbent will be responsible for:

• Develop and oversee the project execution plan at Mhlume Factory, aligned to the master plan.
• Align the project implementation and monitoring plan with the factory’s operational plans and activities.
• Plan and facilitate project buy-in and internalisation programmes in collaboration with the Project Team.
• Maintain regular communication and awareness on key elements of the Project.
• Plan and coordinate training for the Project Team, including factory employees.
• Facilitate Bowtie Analysis and performance standard development for identified Fatal Risks.
• Assist in the development and entrenchment of the Leadership Safety Behaviour and Expectation Programme.
• Facilitate implementation of the Fatal Risk Management and Behaviour-Based Safety Programme.
• Coordinate implementation of the assurance protocol for critical controls.
• Implement assurance audits for fatal risks and leadership behaviours, and ensure closure of identified gaps.
• Provide contractor safety development and guidance towards maturity status based on NOSA principles.
• Review and align the reward and recognition programme based on critical behaviours and controls to reinforce positive employee behaviours.
• Incorporate project-related SOPs, risk assessments, work instructions and procedures into the IMS system.
• Develop a risk-based induction video incorporating relevant project items into existing IMS systems.

MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

• BSc in Environmental Health/Safety Management or equivalent.
• 2 years’ experience working in a factory environment.
• Additional relevant training and supervisory work experience will be an added advantage.
