Employment Opportunity – Psychosocial Support Officer

Usutu Forest Products Company is seeking a highly qualified, resilient, and empathetic Psychosocial Support Officer to join our Clinic team. This pivotal role is responsible for promoting mental health, providing critical counselling services, and managing crisis interventions for our employees, their families, and the surrounding communities. The successful candidate will operate under the daily instructions of the Clinic Matron, collaborating extensively with Line Managers, the medical team, and external stakeholders. This role is field-intensive, focusing on proactive mental wellness and crisis response, with administrative duties occupying the remaining time.

Key Responsibilities

1. Clinical & Psychosocial Support

  • Provide professional individual and group counselling sessions to employees and community members.
  • Conduct diagnoses and treat patients within the scope of practice, coordinating referrals to psychiatrists, psychologists, and rehabilitation centers.
  • Administer medication as required and maintain accurate medical records with the highest level of confidentiality.
  • Provide Psychological First Aid and crisis intervention services in response to workplace accidents, trauma, and emergencies.

2. Wellness Program & Policy Implementation

  • Develop, implement, and promote workplace mental health and wellness programs aimed at enhancing employee wellbeing and productivity.
  • Coordinate awareness campaigns addressing stress management, substance abuse, suicide prevention, men’s mental health, and gender-based violence.
  • Support the development and implementation of workplace mental health policies, procedures, and guidelines, promoting stigma reduction.

3. Information Management & Stakeholder Coordination

  • Manage the end-to-end referral process for specialized care, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders (hospitals, NGOs, insurers).
  • Register all patient data on the CIMS information system for government statistics and compile monthly reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Serve as the primary contact for the Ministry of Health, private practitioners, and community-based organizations regarding psychosocial matters.

Minimum Requirements & Skills

Qualifications

  • Minimum Requirement: Degree in Mental Health Nursing.
  • Registration: Current registration with the EMDC and Nursing Council.
  • Advantageous: A degree in Psychology is a strong added advantage.
  • Experience: A minimum of 5 years working experience in a similar clinical or psychosocial role.

Technical Competencies

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Packages (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Experience with CIMS Data Information System for government reporting.
  • Proven evidence-based practice and multi-professional collaboration.
  • Strong skills in medication administration and clinical diagnostics.
  • Ability to work independently and meet strict deadlines.
