Senior Trade and Commerce Officer
Reporting To
Head: Trade and Commerce
Purpose of the Job
To support Business Eswatini’s advocacy agenda by undertaking policy research, economic analysis, stakeholder engagement and strategic project implementation that improves the competitiveness of the private sector, enhances the ease of doing business, promotes export development and strengthens Business Eswatini’s influence on national, regional and international policy.
Key Responsibilities
1. Trade Facilitation & Market Access
- Support Business Eswatini in trade facilitation initiatives.
- Monitor implementation of AfCFTA, SACU, SADC and other trade agreements.
- Coordinate advocacy on trade barriers affecting members.
2. Trade & Commerce Support & Advocacy
- Coordinate Trade & Commerce Committee activities.
- Prepare agendas, minutes and follow-up actions.
- Maintain relationships with Government, regulators, development partners and business associations.
- Conduct research to inform advocacy activities.
3. Resource Mobilization
- Identify funding opportunities.
- Prepare concept notes and project proposals.
- Support project implementation and reporting.
4. Knowledge Management & Communications
- Prepare newsletters, reports, committee papers and annual report inputs.
- Maintain advocacy databases and knowledge resources.
Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential:
- Bachelor’s degree in Economics, International Trade, Public Policy, Commerce, Business Administration or a related field.
Preferred:
- Master’s degree or progress towards one.
Experience
- 4–6 years’ experience in trade policy, economic research, stakeholder engagement, development programmes or related fields.
