SHERQ OFFICER – PROJECTS (FTC)

JOB PURPOSE

Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced candidates for appointment to the above-mentioned position in Projects reporting to the SHERQ Manager.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

  • Coordinate and facilitate project-specific SHERQ risk assessments, ensuring hazards are identified, risks are evaluated, and effective mitigation measures are implemented throughout all project phases.
  • Provide SHERQ guidance and support to Project Managers, Engineers, Supervisors and Contractors to ensure compliance with company standards and legal requirements.
  • Monitor contractor SHERQ performance and work collaboratively with contractors to develop and implement corrective and preventative action plans.
  • Facilitate incident and near-miss investigations, determine root causes, and coordinate the implementation and verification of corrective actions.
  • Coordinate and drive the close-out of project audit findings, inspection observations and non-conformances.
  • Conduct regular site inspections, behavioural observations, audits and compliance assessments to ensure adherence to SHERQ standards, project specifications and legislative requirements.
  • Develop and deliver project safety awareness campaigns, toolbox talks, safety alerts and other fit-for-purpose communications.
  • Facilitate SHERQ induction training for employees, contractors and visitors, ensuring compliance before access to project sites.
  • Support the development, implementation and continuous improvement of project SHERQ management plans, procedures and safe work practices.
  • Develop monitoring and inspection schedules to ensure compliance with statutory, environmental, occupational health and safety requirements.
  • Compile and submit project PowerBI SHERQ performance reports, statistics, risk registers and compliance reports.
  • Coordinate emergency preparedness activities, including drills and testing of emergency response procedures.
  • Track project SHERQ actions, inspections, audits and corrective actions in SAP and other company management systems, ensuring timely close-out.
  • Coordinate project SHERQ committee meetings, prepare agendas and minutes, and ensure actions are implemented and tracked to closure.
  • Support environmental and sustainability initiatives relevant to projects, including waste management, water management and environmental compliance activities.
  • Promote a proactive safety culture by coaching employees and contractors on safe work practices and behavioural safety principles.
  • Ensure full compliance with Ubombo’s SHERQ procedures, policies, standards and guidelines at all times.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Degree in Safety / Quality Management / Risk Management or related area.
  • SAMTRAC / NEBOSH qualification.
  • ISO 9001 / 14001 / NOSA Integrated 5 Star System Lead Auditor qualification is an advantage.
  • 2–3 years’ experience in a construction, engineering, maintenance or projects environment with responsibility for health and safety.
  • Training in First Aid, Firefighting and HIRA is an added advantage.
  • Knowledge of relevant SHERQ legislation and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience working with contractors and managing contractor safety performance on project sites.
  • Problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Administrative ability and attention to detail.
  • Sound interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Report writing skills.
  • Ability to coach and facilitate learning.
  • Skills in MS Office Suite and Power BI.

SHERQ OFFICER – MANUFACTURING

JOB PURPOSE

Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced candidates for appointment to the above-mentioned position in the Manufacturing Function reporting to the SHERQ Manager.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

  • Co-ordinate and facilitate SHERQ risk assessments, and work with operations and maintenance teams to develop best mitigation plans.
  • Coach and guide management in the assessment, management and continuous improvement of SHERQ performance.
  • Facilitate SHERQ investigations and coordinate the verification of closeout actions.
  • Facilitate the closeout of audit findings.
  • Create SHERQ awareness using various fit for purpose media (e.g. toolbox talks, noticeboards, electronic media).
  • Develop SHERQ capability in contractors and seasonals through facilitation of SHERQ induction, internal training/design material.
  • Manage SHERQ induction processes through effective planning, facilitation and co-ordination.
  • Conduct inspections and internal audits to oversee and ensure adherence to legislative and SHERQ Management System requirements.
  • Conduct contractor health, safety and environment audits to evaluate compliance to ABF’s HSE requirements.
  • Maintain the internal and external assurance systems through creating and updating procedures, communicating changes to procedures and auditing compliance.
  • Implement and drive the implementation of SHERQ programmes and plans specific to the area of responsibility.
  • Develop monitoring schedules to ensure compliance with statutory requirements for safety, health, environment and occupational health.
  • Test and validate inputs into the ABF Annual HSE reporting process to support accurate data reporting.
  • Compile SHERQ management reports.
  • Coordinate occupational hygiene surveys and corrective action closeout.
  • Coordinate effective testing of emergency response protocols.
  • Track SHERQ inspections in CMMS (SAP) and facilitate effective closeout of identified gaps.
  • Ensure effective SHERQ committee meetings are conducted to schedule through setting up the programme, coordinating, attending meetings and recommending necessary changes to the SHERQ Management System.
  • Oversee fire and emergency equipment inspection, maintenance and service to ensure compliance with legal requirements and Mutual Risk Group standards.
  • Promote and adhere to ABF’s procedures, policies and guidelines, including, without limitation, those relating to SHERQ, Competition Law and Anti-Bribery and Corruption (ABC).

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Degree in Environmental Management and Occupational Safety & Health (EMOSH) or related area.
  • ISO 45001 / 14001 / NOSA Integrated 5 Star System Lead Auditor qualification is an advantage.
  • 2–3 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment working in a health and safety role.
  • Training in Fire Prevention is an added advantage.
  • Knowledge of relevant SHERQ legislation and regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to plan, organise and track activities for self and others.
  • Problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Administrative ability and attention to detail.
  • Sound interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Report writing skills.
  • Ability to coach and facilitate learning.
  • Skills in MS Office Suite.
