
MATSAPHA DEPOT
Southern Star Logistics has an exciting new opportunity for Working Chargehands, Diesel Mechanics and Autoelectrician based at our Matsapha Depot to ensure that trucks, trailers and yellow equipment are safely, correctly and timeously repaired according to company policies and procedures and according to manufacturers’ specifications.
1. DIESEL MECHANICS
Reporting to the Workshop Foreman, duties include:
- Maintaining, modifying, installing and repairing plant and machinery where necessary
- Inspecting plant or production area and reporting faults to Workshop Foreman
- Being an Artisan in more than one trade, e.g. welder, fitter, boilermaker and/or electrical/mechanical engineering
- Applying Health and Safety rules and regulations when conducting a service or repair on the equipment
- Training, guiding, informing and generally counselling in matters of technical knowledge and trade skills
- Extensive and in-depth knowledge of maintenance philosophies for a varied range of automotive and materials handling equipment
Minimum Requirements:
- Relevant qualification, e.g. Diploma in Heavy Duty Vehicle Mechanics
- Diesel mechanic qualification / Grade 1 trade test certificate
- 5 years’ experience in heavy duty vehicle maintenance (Mercedes, Scania, Volvo trucks)
- 5 years’ experience on air systems for Trucks and Trailers
- Heavy duty driver’s license (advantage)
- Excellent spoken and written English
2. CHARGE HAND
Reporting to the Workshop Foreman, duties include:
- Work schedules are compiled to maximize operational efficiency
- Schedules are produced timeously
- Drivers are only allocated vehicles once necessary competence is confirmed
- Operational problems are reported to relevant parties
- Tachographs are checked daily
- Trip sheets are checked against delivery notes and tachographs
- Operational/statistical data is checked daily
- Incident documentation is completed for all accidents
- Vehicle maintenance schedules are adhered to
- Regulations pertaining to fuel fees and brought to account
- All legal requirements are complied with
3. AUTO – ELECTRICIAN
- Conduct services on electrical components of trucks and trailers
- Attend to electrical breakdowns and carry out necessary repairs
- Apply Health and Safety rules when conducting service/repair
- Comply with company codes of conduct, policies and procedures
- Perform other duties as required by management
Minimum Requirements:
- Relevant qualification, e.g. Diploma in Auto electrical engineering
- Grade 1 trade test certificate or equivalent
- 5 years’ experience in heavy duty vehicle maintenance (Mercedes, Scania, Volvo trucks)
- 5 years’ experience in same position
- Heavy duty driver’s license (advantage)
