STAFF DEVELOPMENT FELLOWSHIP

CALL FOR APPLICATIONS

The Institute of Development Management (IDM), Eswatini Campus, invites applications from outstanding graduates and emerging academics to join its Staff Development Fellowship Programme (SDFP).

The Staff Development Fellowship Programme is a strategic institutional initiative aimed at developing the next generation of academics through postgraduate education, academic mentorship, and practical teaching and research experience. The programme seeks to build a sustainable pipeline of highly qualified academic staff capable of contributing to excellence in teaching, research, innovation, and community engagement.

The Fellowship offers talented graduates a structured pathway into academia by enabling them to pursue Master’s or Doctoral studies while actively participating in the academic life of the Institute under the guidance of experienced academic mentors.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

You should be a motivated graduate with commitment to teaching and research. To be eligible, applicants must:

    • Hold a Bachelors (for Master’s Degree Programmes) or Master’s Degree (for PhD) with at least a 2.1 or Merit respectively
    • Be admitted, or eligible for admission, to a Master’s/PhD programme aligned to IDM’s academic disciplines;
    • Demonstrate academic potential and a clear commitment to teaching and research;
    • Be a citizen or permanent resident of Eswatini.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Staff Development Fellows are expected to make meaningful contributions to the academic activities of the Institute while pursuing their postgraduate qualifications. Responsibilities include:

    • Assisting with teaching, tutoring and student academic support activities.
    • Supporting curriculum development and continuous programme improvement initiatives.
    • Assisting in the preparation, administration and marking of assessments under academic supervision.
    • Participating in departmental and institutional research projects and scholarly activities.
    • Contributing to community engagement and knowledge dissemination initiatives.
    • Pursuing approved postgraduate studies and maintaining satisfactory academic progress throughout the Fellowship.
    • Participating in staff development, academic training and institutional activities.
    • Upholding the Institute’s policies, regulations, professional ethics and academic integrity standards.

WHAT THE FELLOWSHIP OFFERS YOU

    • A monthly stipend to support your living expenses during the Fellowship;
    • Sponsorship or subsidy of tuition fees for approved Masters/PhD programmes (subject to available funds);
    • Possible support for research grants and conference attendance, on request and justification;
    • Structured mentorship from senior academic staff;
    • A recognised pathway toward full-time academic employment at IDM on successful completion (subject to available posts and performance appraisal).

DURATION & TERMS

    • The Fellowship is offered for a minimum of one academic year, renewable annually based on satisfactory performance and academic progress, up to a maximum of three years.
    • On successful completion, Fellows may be offered full-time academic employment at IDM, subject to the availability of posts and performance appraisal.
    • Fellows who terminate the Fellowship prematurely may be required to reimburse institutional expenses incurred, unless waived by Management under special circumstances.

    • A motivation letter indicating the postgraduate programme and discipline they intend to pursue and explaining their interest in an academic career.
    • A comprehensive Curriculum Vitae (CV).
    • Certified copies of academic certificates and official academic transcripts.
    • Proof of admission or evidence of eligibility for admission into an accredited postgraduate programme, where applicable.
    • Contact details of two academic or professional referees.
