TECHNICAL ADVISOR

Main Purpose of the Job:

To provide overall technical support and leadership on Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) and Gender Equality components within the BERCS-Khetsimphilo Project. The role involves delivering clinical psychological services (assessments, counseling, and evidence-based therapies), designing training content, building capacity for staff and partners, and supervising Mental Health Nurses and Social Case Workers. Additionally, the role provides technical leadership on Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) issues, participates in national working groups, and contributes to strategy and policy development.

Education, experience and competencies required:

• Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology (a Master of Arts in Behavioral Psychology is an added advantage).
• Active registration and valid license with the Eswatini Medical and Dental Council.
• Mandatory valid Driver’s License.
• 5–10 years’ practical experience in Psychology/Clinical practice.
• 3–5 years’ experience in designing training content and capacity building.
• 3 years’ experience in policy analysis and development.
• Proven experience in handling SGBV thematic issues and participating in national working groups.
• Experience in supervising clinical/project teams is an added advantage.
• Expertise in providing MHPSS services and post-trauma intervention.
• Strong technical understanding of Gender Equality principles and SGBV issues.
• Capacity building, mentoring, and training facilitation skills.
• Team leadership and clinical supervision skills.
• Deep knowledge of the Eswatini health context and Ministry of Health (MoH) systems.
• Proficient in digital documentation and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Strong communication, stakeholder engagement, and inter-agency coordination skills.
• Ability to prioritize tasks and work flexible hours during emergencies.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:

• Lead technical aspects of MHPSS, Gender Equality, and SGBV components across program activities.
• Conduct monthly clinical consultations at all BERCS clinics; perform psychological assessments, deliver evidence-based therapies, provide post-trauma counseling, and manage crisis interventions/referrals.
• Develop and adapt mental health content and guidelines aligned with Ministry of Health (MoH) standards.
• Formulate a comprehensive training plan and conduct capacity-building sessions for Red Cross staff, volunteers, CSOs, and external partners.
• Provide direct supportive supervision and monitoring to Mental Health Nurses and Social Case Workers at BERCS clinics and collaborating facilities.
• Actively participate in national inter-agency working groups, health providers’ networks, and thematic discussions to strengthen referral pathways.
• Lead research and innovation in humanitarian mental health approaches and contribute to MHPSS strategy and policy development.
• Collaborate with Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), MoH, and the Department of Social Welfare (DPMO).
• Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor to support program goals.
