JOB PURPOSE

The Technical Services Manager will take the strategic lead for the Engineering and Utilities functions in the Maltings, ensuring plant reliability across all process areas.

The role is responsible for environmental plant equipment effectiveness, maintaining process system and control health, and leading strategic initiatives in the Maltings Plant while ensuring corporate governance for equipment and system integrity through compliance with relevant standards and legislation.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Maintain a Safe, Healthy and Risk-Free Working Environment

  • Ensure compliance with safety, health and environmental legislation.
  • Maintain safety and housekeeping standards.

2. Manage Human Resources

  • Develop employees based on identified needs through OPR sessions.
  • Ensure a healthy industrial relations climate.
  • Manage the technical pipeline for key roles.
  • Manage apprenticeship and artisan development for the site.

3. Ensure Manufacturing Systems & Instrumentation Integrity

  • Maintain system integrity and change control.
  • Maintain and calibrate site instrumentation.

4. Ensure Engineering Standards Compliance

  • Ensure application of documented standards.
  • Develop and update engineering standards through ZBS Maintenance and Energy & Fluids.

5. Reporting

  • Diagnose business performance problems and collaborate with specialist teams to create effective and integrated HR solutions for teams and individuals.
  • Provide feedback to specialist teams regarding HR solution effectiveness and identify continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Monitor organisational performance and provide data for the People/Organisation Scorecard.

6. Employee Engagement

  • Review feedback from employee engagement surveys and other people data, including exit interviews and KPI scorecards.
  • Identify issues affecting employee engagement.
  • Develop and implement appropriate plans to improve engagement.

7. VPO

  • Lead the People Pillar VPO Agenda across the Plant.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Engineering qualification – Mechanical or Electrical.
  • South African Department of Labour-issued Government Certificate of Competence.
  • Minimum 12 months on-the-job training.
  • 2–3 years’ experience as a Packaging or Brewing & Utilities Engineer.
  • Additional business qualification is advantageous.
  • Advanced Utilities Plant training is advantageous.
  • Ammonia training is advantageous.
  • 24 months on-the-job training is advantageous.
  • 12 months’ experience in a Utilities environment is advantageous.
