Fundraising and Resource Mobilization Strategy
SOS Children’s Villages Eswatini
1. Background and Context
SOS Children’s Villages Eswatini is a nationally rooted NGO committed to ensuring children grow up in caring and protective family environments. The organization is implementing its National Strategy (2023–2027) across Nhlangano, Mbabane, and Siteki.
While significant progress has been made, financial sustainability remains a critical priority due to:
- Dependence on international donor funding.
- Increasing competition for development resources.
- Untapped local fundraising opportunities.
To address this, SOS Children’s Villages Eswatini seeks to develop a comprehensive Fundraising and Resource Mobilization Strategy (2027–2031) to:
- Diversify income streams.
- Strengthen local resource mobilization.
- Build predictable and resilient funding pipelines.
2. Purpose of the Assignment
To develop a comprehensive, data-driven, and actionable fundraising strategy aligned with the SOS global fundraising framework that enables the organization to:
- Achieve long-term financial sustainability.
- Diversify funding sources and reduce donor concentration risk.
- Strengthen local and international partnerships.
- Build a predictable and scalable income model.
- Position the organization toward progressive self-sufficiency by 2031.
3. Overall Objective
To design a strategic, diversified, and results-based fundraising framework supported by robust financial projections, operational planning, and performance monitoring systems.
4. Specific Objectives
The consultant is expected to come up with:
- Situational and market analysis.
- Clear funding landscape and opportunity mapping.
- Strategic framework development.
- Multifaceted fundraising channels.
- Donor journey and retention framework.
- Digital fundraising strategy.
- Financial planning and projections.
- Resource and capacity plan.
- Monitoring, Evaluation and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
- Risk and assumptions analysis.
5. Expected Deliverables
The consultant is expected to deliver:
- Inception Report.
- Situational Analysis Report.
- Validation Workshop and Report.
- Final Strategy Document.
6. Timeline and Level of Effort
- Duration: 8–12 weeks.
7. Required Expertise
The successful consultant should possess:
- An advanced degree in a relevant field.
- 7–10 years’ experience in fundraising strategy development.
- Strong knowledge of the Southern African donor landscape.
- Expertise in:
- Fundraising and donor diversification.
- Financial modelling and ROI analysis.
- Digital fundraising.
- Strategic planning.
- Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL) frameworks.
8. Ethical Considerations
The assignment must adhere to the following principles:
- Confidentiality.
- Objectivity.
- Safeguarding compliance, as the organisation works with children and young people.
- Ethical data handling and data protection.
