Role Purpose
Oversee daily warehouse operations, including receiving, storage, stock handling, order fulfilment and dispatch. Ensure accurate stock records, safe working practices, efficient operations and timely service delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate receiving, put-away, storage, picking, packing and dispatch activities.
- Supervise, train and assess warehouse staff, forklift operators and general workers.
- Develop and enforce standard operating procedures for efficiency, accuracy and safety.
- Maintain accurate stock records and support stock counts and inventory audits.
- Monitor warehouse KPIs, including order accuracy, dispatch timeliness and labour productivity.
- Manage warehouse layout, space utilisation and equipment maintenance.
- Apply FIFO and FEFO stock-rotation principles to reduce expiry, condemnation and losses.
- Work with Procurement, Logistics, Finance, SHEQ, Agribusiness and Sales to meet service and delivery requirements.
- Prepare and manage the warehouse operating budget.
- Resolve operational issues involving damaged goods, shipment discrepancies and equipment breakdowns.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration or related field preferred.
- Equivalent relevant work experience will be considered.
- At least 5 years’ warehouse or distribution-operations experience.
- At least 2 years’ supervisory or management experience.
- Fresh produce, perishable-goods or temperature-sensitive-products experience is advantageous.
- Experience with warehouse-management systems, inventory-control software and Microsoft Excel.
- Valid driver’s licence held for at least 2 years is preferred where fleet or field operations form part of the role.
Required Competencies
- Knowledge of warehouse best practices, safety requirements and ISO 9001 requirements.
- Strong leadership, communication and organisational skills.
- Ability to analyse operational data, identify trends and implement improvements.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
